Alfie, a 20-week old Greyhound-Labrador cross, has a fatal liver condition. When he was left at our shelter in 2010 he had already had 4 homes - and he was just 20 weeks old! He had been passed from home to home after each owner had discovered his condition and failed to help him - just passing him onto the next unsuspecting person
When he finally came to Happy Endings he was extremely poorly and a bag of bones, but with a huge distended tummy. Knowing that something was obviously seriously wrong, we took Alfie to see our vet and he was diagnosed with a liver shunt and the early stages of liver failure due to lack of treatment.
Following veterinary advice that Alfie's condition could be treated with surgery, Happy Endings Rescue appealed for help in the national media to pay for an operation to save Alfie's life.
We were inundated with emails, letters and donations from people moved by Alfie's plight and wanting to help, and we would like to sincerely thank everyone who has made a donation towards Alfie’s appeal for help.
Alfie has had a consultation with a veterinary surgeon specialising in liver conditions. It has been decided that, due to Alfie’s poor condition, he is currently unable to have his operation but will remain on a prescription diet and on medication to help manage his condition until he is, one day, strong enough to undergo surgery.
Alfie is doing very well on this new diet and medication and is leading a virtually normal life.
All of your generous donations, which we continue to gratefully receive, go towards maintaining his regime of care.
Once again thank you to everyone for your kind donations, which continue to help enable us to provide the care that Alfie needs.
With love from Alfie and everyone at Happy Endings Rescue.

This was Alfie in February. He had been given only 2 weeks to live by the vet. We were all devastated and wanted to give him the best quality of life for whatever remaining time he had with us. Little did we know what
a trooper he was. He has fought and fought and we hope that soon he will be strong enough to have corrective surgery to ease his liver condition.
